The NORINCO delegation, led by Mr. Liang Hongda, General Manager of the African and American Department, engaged in discussions that highlighted the 38-year history of collaboration, dating back to 1986. Gen. Kainerugaba warmly congratulated NORINCO on its global prominence, acknowledging its position as the world’s largest aerospace and defence company, boasting annual revenues exceeding $82 billion.
The meeting served as a platform to review and reinforce the long-standing cooperation between the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and NORINCO. Discussions focused on exploring avenues to further enhance the UPDF’s capabilities through continued collaboration, building on the foundation of mutual trust and cooperation.
“Our partnership with NORINCO has been invaluable in strengthening the UPDF and contributing to regional stability,” Gen. Kainerugaba stated. “We are committed to further deepening this strategic relationship.”
In a demonstration of the strong ties between the two nations, the Chinese delegation extended an invitation to Gen. Kainerugaba to visit China, marking 14 years since his last visit. This invitation symbolizes the commitment to sustained dialogue and cooperation at the highest levels.
Brig. Gen. Dan Kakono, the UPDF Artillery Division Commander, also participated in the meeting, contributing to the productive discussions. The presence of senior military officials from both sides highlighted the importance of the partnership in maintaining regional security and fostering mutual understanding.
The meeting reinforced the commitment of Uganda and China to strengthening their defence cooperation, ensuring continued collaboration in areas of mutual interest and contributing to stability in the region.
