Uganda’s aviation sector is poised for significant growth following the signing of a new capacity development and implementation agreement with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The partnership aims to enhance Uganda’s air navigation system and elevate the overall quality of its aviation services.
The agreement, recently formalized between the Ugandan government and ICAO, will provide Uganda with a comprehensive suite of support services. These include access to expert rosters, robust project management assistance, and customized training packages designed to address the specific needs of the Ugandan aviation sector.
A key initial initiative under this agreement will be the development of a new national air navigation plan. This plan will ensure that Uganda’s air navigation infrastructure and procedures are fully aligned with international aviation standards, promoting safety and efficiency.
Mr. Fred Bamwesigye, Director General of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, emphasizing the critical role aviation plays in Uganda’s economic development and connectivity.
“Uganda recognizes the crucial role aviation plays in our economic development and connectivity,” Mr. Bamwesigye stated. “By partnering with ICAO and leveraging their expertise, we are confident that we can elevate our aviation sector to new heights and provide better services to our citizens and visitors.”
This agreement represents a significant step forward in fostering the growth of aviation in Africa and specifically strengthening Uganda’s air navigation system. The partnership reflects a shared commitment to improving aviation safety, efficiency, and sustainability, ultimately benefiting both Ugandan citizens and international travelers.
